Mirage

I made your favorite camarones al ajillo
served with asparagus in home-made mayonesa,
fresh roses on the linen tablecloth, but you had
other things to do, and when I looked up you were gone.
I am not sure if the remembrance of your flesh
is real; did I imagine you eating pan cubano
and frijoles negros, your shoes off while you told
off-color jokes punctuated by flying hands,
a glass of vino tinto half-empty by your plate?
I am not sure if I have not made up the memory of you,
except that when you left, there were three children
sitting at the table; all wore your smile.
