I'm
programmed for love.from head to toe.
I can only love & nothing else. -Lola Lola I had to see her again, the black high-heel, to see what stance she might take next. I was shocked to find her gone from the chain- link fence, but in her place: a pair of man's, gold, wire-rimmed glasses. Instantly, The Blue Angel reeled before me (shades of black & white in 1930 creating enough grey to amount to blue?) with Professor Rath complaining to Lola Lola, "I'd rather die like a dog than live like this." His life in tatters, palpable, yet at center-screen von Sternberg frames the cause of the hero's tragic spiral: Marlene Dietrich's gartered leg, thigh to high-heel toe, the longest limb in the history of film. |
