Silences

rewriting that old
bolero
so it could be a
samba
i discovered
the rests between the notes
to be so lucid
shining with expectation
with the tense caress
of drums and saxophone
they mattered more
in time
than the notes themselves
the silences
peopled by faint remembrances
of guitared kisses
lightly
sauteed in garlic butter
ellipses
in amber space
your Chesire eyes
grinning
in a corner of the
seventh stanza
hanging from the silver
columns of the
music
fading into the
madrugada
filling the room
with muted xylophonic
yearnings
and the smell of
surf
