For The Girl In The Dream
(And Samira, If They Are Not The Same)

(1)
I remember her
                     for her belly,
               swollen and soft;
          I remember her imperfect tan,
            set by her own
                    shadows;
          But never for the insect in her eyes.

(2)
Don't let me drink now,
           I want to be innocent
                           and awkward.

(3)
If I were to come to you
               and ask for an untouched
            fragment of your self,
                     would you have an answer?

(4)
Some perfect day
            I may crawl to your brow
                   with one half glass of wine
                   thin in my arteries,
               and build a nest
            in the wrinkles of your head.

(5)
She wore ropes and men
            and seemed,
                                  at first,
              far away
            from the dark lawn
              on which we sat.
