Most Saturdays, there
are boys in the barn
rigged with electricity, fine guitars, and amps
reclaimed for the second and third time
from Willett's Pawn and Merchandise.
Girls, shorn as sheep,
huddle against the wall
playing cards or making skirts from scraps
with pins and thimbles.
Weekdays they grow vegetables
in unblemished soil
and poach sole of halibut.
