Thickets tangle the verges
where sun-dazed fields
embrace the woods. Prickly

with anticipation, we await
the perfectly ripened moment.
Juice like liquid amethysts

on our tongues, we seal summer
into jars, align them just so --
wishing our lives as neatly arranged.
