The Sea Turtle
by Neca Stoller
|
Fishtailing on the blue
heart of the sky
thin clouds, more fragile than dreams.
At low tide the gray griddle of the Atlantic
discards a sea turtle like her son's float.
Bloated pinkish skin, still and reeking.
Its flippers splayed toward the dunes.
Something had taken bites across its shell.
A brown stuffing spills out
and a clutch of eggs,
some cracked, translucent,
all dead. In and out
the fiddler crabs feasting, feasting.
